The first thing that you would have to do would be to wet the carpet with some water. Ensure that the entire rug is wet so that the shampoo can do its job. Once you are done with the main part of the carpet, you should proceed to clean the fringes of the rug. Ensure that you only use a soft brush to do this and employ gentle strokes until the fringes are clean.
Washing the carpet may be the bulk of the work but that does not mean that you are home free. The stages of cleaning the carpet are also crucial as if you do not do it correctly you could still damage the carpet. When you are rinsing the carpet, you need to pay close attention especially to carpets such as dirt-trapper that tend to hold on to stubborn stains or even acquire new ones in case you were not cleaning the carpet in a clean environment. Ensure that you completely rinse the rug. One thing most people do not consider when it comes to cleaning their carpets is the fact that if soap remains on the rug it could end up making the carpet stiff. If the detergent is coloured, it could also cause the carpet to look unsightly with dried up spots of soap. To be on the safe side, try and make use of colourless detergent when you are cleaning your carpet. When you are rinsing it, ensure that there are no soap suds that are forming once you are done. You would have to repeat the process as many times as required until all the soap is gone. When it comes to rinsing, you could use a hose to do this as it would make your work easier. Ensure that you are only using cold water. Use a squeegee to remove any excess water before you lay your oriental rug on a clean, dry flat surface to air dry.
